Winter Postal Competitions

What's it all about?

Many people wonder what we do over the winter. Do we still shoot? Is it only indoors? Do we have any competitions?

Well, yes we do still shoot, and it's not just indoors... in fact the winter is the main time of the year when archers all across the country compete against each other - and we do it all without having to travel to other venues. We shoot at our own grounds (and indoor venues), and send off our scores to the each other (so we'll know how we did) and to the competition organisers (who record all the scores).

These postals are organised as leagues, with 6 teams in each league to give 5 matches over the season (one a month from November through to March).

Who is in the team?

You!!! Or at least, you could be if your score is high enough - in the CSAA League there are 4 archers in a team (for Recurves, 3 for Longbows and Juniors and 2 for Compound). In the BA Leagues there are 5 archers in a Recurve team and 2 for Compound. The teams aren't pre-selected, the rules require everyone to shoot and then the top scorers form the 'A' team and the next group the 'B' team.

I dont' think I'm that good, am I needed?

Most definitely Yes!!! Nonsuch's teams are up there with some of the best in the country (see the BA Leagues page) and we'd like to keep it that way. We only get points if we beat our opponents. At the very least, that needs a full team, as not even a very good archer can make up for a missing score. Even a low score is better than none, and it's also a fact that in the winter even the best archers can have a 'disaster' and shoot a much lower score than they'd expect. So everyone's score can count, and you may find your score unexpectedly important. And don't forget - We need Juniors too...

What else

We also have our own internal club league, based on handicap.
